Hey there!
Have you ever experienced something that captivated you in the blink of an eye?
For me that’s researching Japan, being enthralled by Japanese culture, language, literature, nature and discovering new aspects of their beauty. Academically, I am particularly intrigued by the intertwining of culture and language, which is beautifully represented in the study of Japan(ese).
My research interests are based on a deep fascination with bunpล (Japanese Grammar), bungo (Classical Japanese), (Conceptual) Semantics, Cognitive Linguistics and the development of Japanese writing systems. Within my thesis, I am researching, in what ways emotions are intertwined with Japanese culture and language.
I enjoy reading and writing haiku, reading novels and short stories as well as anime & manga. I also find pleasure in detecting cultural references and making them accessible for others. One winter, one of my husband’s patients in palliative care lent me her personal haiku-collection, which has still left a mark on me, remembering how fragile and precious our encounters are. Astonished by Japan’s cultural diversity, I remain elatedly humbled at having gained access to it from a new perspective everyday by living in Japan.
I would love to read about you, please don’t hesitate to write me!
